According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.6 square miles.

Ross is home to some of the finest schools in Marin County including The Ross School (elementary) in the Ross School District and The Branson School, a private high school.

All Ross residents pick up their mail at the town Post Office, as there is no mail delivery.

Ross is home to actors Sean Penn and Robyn Wright-Penn as well as musician Huey Lewis and Author John Gray.
